CLIMBING & TREKKING
Climbing the roof of africa

Tanzania is home to some of the most iconic mountains in Africa, offering a wide range of climbing and trekking experiences. From the legendary Mount Kilimanjaro to the picturesque peaks of the Usambara and Udzungwa mountains, adventurers can explore diverse landscapes and challenge themselves with a variety of hiking options. The country’s mountains provide breathtaking views and an unforgettable fusion of nature and adventure.
MOUNT KILIMANJARO
Mount Kilimanjaro is the roof of Africa, the highest mountain in Africa and the world’s tallest freestanding mountain at 5895 metres. It is also one of the world’s most accessible high summit and included in the world’s 7 peaks hence making it a very popular mountain to climb. There are different routes to reach the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro ranging from 5 to 9 nights. A longer route increases your chance of success reaching the summit as you have more time to acclimatise. The most popular route to climb Mount Kilimanjaro is Machame Route. It is by far the best experience but challenging both physically and mentally at the same time.

KILIMANJARO ROUTES
Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro is a bucket-list adventure for many trekkers around the world. As Africa’s highest peak and one of the Seven Summits, it offers an incredible challenge and stunning scenery.
MACHAME ROUTE
The Machame Route, also known as the Whiskey Route, is one of the most popular and scenic routes for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. It is often chosen by trekkers for its breathtaking views and relatively high success rate. Climbers on Machame trek steeper trails, for longer distances, while sleeping in tents, in comparison to the gradual incline of the Marangu Route. You can climb Mount Kilimanjaro in 6 days using the Machame Route however, the 7 days are often more preferred due to better acclimatisation and higher success rates.

MARANGU ROUTE
The Marangu route, also known as the “Coca-Cola” route, is the oldest, most well established route on Kilimanjaro. Given its gradual slope, the Marangu route is considered the easiest route on the mountain. It is also the only route which offers sleeping huts in dormitory-style accommodation. You can climb Mt. Kilimanjaro in 5 days using this route however, the success rate is low that’s why it is recommended to add an acclimatisation day to increase your chances of reaching the summit. It is the most popular route and since the ascent and descent are done on the same path it can get crowded.
LEMOSHO ROUTE
The Lemosho Route is considered one of the most scenic and less crowded routes for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. It’s known for its breathtaking views and excellent acclimatisation opportunities. Trekkers traverse lush rainforest on the west side of the mountain before joining the Lemosho Route to cross the spectacular Shira Plateau. With its longer itinerary and excellent acclimatisation opportunities, it’s considered a great choice for increasing your chances of a successful summit attempt. The standard duration for the Lemosho Route is 7 to 8 days. This longer itinerary allows for better acclimatisation, increasing your chances of reaching the summit.

RONGAI ROUTE
The Rongai Route is the only route that approaches Kilimanjaro from the north, near the Kenyan border. It is gaining popularity among climbers due to its lower traffic compared to some other routes. Many climbers prefer the Rongai route because it offers a more remote experience and is less crowded than the Marangu Route. Climbers who also travel during the rainy season also choose this route because there is less rain in the northern part of Kilimanjaro. You can climb Mount Kilimanjaro in 6 days using the Rongai Route however, the 7 days are often more preferred due to better acclimatisation and higher success rates.
SHIRA ROUTE
The Shira Route is very similar to Lemosho Route, but begins at a higher altitude near Shira Ridge. In fact, Shira Route was the original route whilst Lemosho is the improved variation. It is less favourable due to its high altitude starting point which climbers often experience some altitude related symptoms from the first day. This route approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the west and it crosses the entire Shira Plateau from the west to the east.

MOUNT meru
Mount Meru is often overshadowed by its more famous neighbor, Mount Kilimanjaro, but it is a fascinating and challenging peak in its own right. Located in Tanzania, Mount Meru is the fifth highest mountain on the African continent, standing at an impressive 4,562.13 meters. It is an active stratovolcano and offers a rewarding trekking experience with unique wildlife and stunning landscapes.
Overall, Mount Meru presents a thrilling challenge for mountaineers and nature enthusiasts alike, and its proximity to Kilimanjaro makes it a compelling option for those seeking a unique and rewarding adventure in Tanzania.
